about the instructor

"If I can do it, so can you." I know from my own birth experiences that a woman's body was designed to give birth spontan- eously, vaginally, naturally. I have never felt more powerful as I did after the natural birth of my first daughter Mae. more about Amy

In 1997 two years before my first daughter was born, I read Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way for the first time. I read the book in two days and immediately wanted to know more about Bradley instructors, midwifery and doulas. There wasn’t a Bradley instructor in town so, I decided that I was going to get certified to teach the Bradley Method. Little did I know that to become an instructor I needed to give birth. A year later I read Birthing From Within by Pam England and wrote Pam a letter expressing my love for her amazing, life changing book on childbirth. The day I received her reply I found out that I was pregnant. She told me about a woman in my community named Dana Ericson, CNM who had similar feelings about birth and babies. I picked up the phone and called Dana and the rest is history. Dana was my midwife for the birth of my first three children (Mae, Stella and Brooks) and through the years Dana has been my mentor and an amazing friend!

My passion for birth and babies is relentless. I enjoy researching and gathering any information I can get my hands on. In 2002 I finally became a certified Bradley instructor and in 2006 a certified childbirth educator through CAPPA (Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association). Every time I start a class I am excited about the wonderful people I will get to spend the next eight weeks with. I feel so very fortunate that I am involved in one of their most sacred experiences.

When I’m not teaching or helping families I’m with my own family.  We enjoy reading, cooking, gardening, listening to music, camping, playing UNO and hanging out with friends.  I love the fact that my kids are already aware of the beauty of birth and breastfeeding.  They often play childbirth class together and wear their babies in slings and nurse them too. They were present for our fourth birth and I know they feel that she is their baby too.
